  The electric supply and distribution system is owned by the City of Mt. Vernon and is currently undergoing an upgrade to 12kv to handle the growth and demand both on a residential and commercial level. The department has four full-time employees utilizing two aerial bucket trucks to maintain the system and install equipment for new customers. The 12kv project will be broken into seven phases over a five year period. Phases one and two were completed and converted over in 2002. Phases three and four were completed in the fall 2003..
