Mt. Vernon has a number of private physicians, optometrists, dentists and chiropractors.  In addition, it is home to the Missouri Rehabilitation Center, Missouri Veterans' Home/Mt. Vernon, and the Veterans' Administration's Gene Taylor Satellite Outpatient Clinic.  Services to the elderly are provided through the Lawrence County Manor, Residential Care Facility, Mt. Vernon Place Care Center and Residential Care Facility.  The city is part of the Mt. Vernon Ambulance District, which contracts with St. John's Regional Health Center for ambulance services. A medical complex, completed in late 1991, is St. John's Medical Center.  Mt. Vernon is also home to the Mid-America Dental and Hearing Center, Heart of America Eye Care, and Hearing Crafters of America.
