Mt. Vernon is proud to have seven parks, each with its own unique qualities and amenities, as well as a variety of recreational activities to choose from.

Swimming Pool
The swimming pool at the "Spirit of 76 Park" opened Monday, May 31, 2010, Memorial Day. The pool is open for general swimming from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday thru Saturday, and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Adult swims are 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday thru Thursday. Admission for everyone will be $2.00. Season passes (individual and/or family) may be purchased for $125.00.

Summer Recreation Program
The Summer Recreation Program begins on Monday, July 5, 2010 and ends Friday, July 30, 2010. It is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to noon, Monday thru Friday. Cost is $25.00 per child and applications may be picked up at the swimming pool. A child must have completed 1st grade to be eligible. Age groups are 1st grade through 6th grade. Parents can sign up their child(ren) anytime through June at the pool, during pool hours of 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please call Marla Stewart on her cell phone 316-0077 or at the pool at 466-7688.

Sports
Mt. Vernon has a thriving sports program. The Mt. Vernon School System offers football, basketball, tennis, golf, and track during the school year. The Mt. Vernon sports program has a very loyal following in the citizens of Mt. Vernon, which can be evidenced by the attendance at the sports events throughout the year.

Mighty Mite Football is offered to kids from third to sixth grade during the fall of each year at the Middle School Mountaineer Stadium.

Soccer is also played in the fall of the year and is available for kids from 5 to 15 years of age. Leagues play on Thursday nights at the Spirit of '76 Park.

Basketball leagues are also available for girls and boys grades K to 6 at the Mt. Vernon Middle School South Gym. Leagues play from January to mid-March.

Softball and baseball are very popular during the summer. Leagues range in age from pre-school children to adults.

Adult Co-ed Softball League
Mt. Vernon Coed Softball has begun their Summer League.
