Mount Vernon is proud to have seven parks, each with its own unique
qualities and amenities, as well as a variety of recreational activities to
choose from.

Park Expansion Phase 1 - small

Spirit of '76 Park - Swimming Pool

The swimming pool at the Spirit of '76 Park will open Saturday, May 25, 2024.
Last day will be Monday, September 2, 2024.

Pool hours are as follows: 


Sunday – Thursday 1 pm – 6 pm
Friday 1 pm – 9 pm
Saturday 11 am – 9 pm
Adult Swim (Monday – Thursday) 6 pm – 7 pm

Pool fees are as follows: 

Ages 0 – 2 (Must be accompanied by an adult) Free
All Swimmers $ 3.00
Non-swimmers $ 3.00
Season Passes $ 150.00 (1-5 people)
Each Additional Family Member (per Person) $30.00

Pool parties: 

Pool parties may be booked at the pool in advance.
Pool parties are two-hours long.
Sunday from 6 pm – 8 pm
Pool Rental Fee (Admissions is not included in listed prices) $200.00 plus admission
Summer Park Program LOGO

The City of Mount Vernon SUMMER Park Program is scheduled to start on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Spirit of 76 Park.
Any child that has COMPLETED Kindergarten through the Fifth (5th) grade is welcome to participate.
Park Program is held Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.; and will end on Friday, July 19, 2024.

CLOSED DATES: Park Program will be closed on Friday, June 28 for Red, White & Boom preparation as well as on Thursday, July 4 to observe Independence Day.

If registration is completed online, please be sure to bring payment to City Hall or to the Pool prior to 6/24/2024.

You may also sign your child(ren) up beginning Saturday, May 25, 2024, opening day at the Mount Vernon Pool. There is a twenty-five dollar ($25.00) registration fee for each child who wishes to participate. 

Please note: The Emergency Services for Children has agreed to sponsor students who have attended the Mount Vernon R-5 School district for the school year.

Sports

Mt. Vernon has a thriving sports program. The Mt. Vernon School System offers football, basketball, tennis, golf, and track during the school year. The Mt. Vernon sports program has a very loyal following in the citizens of Mt. Vernon, which can be evidenced by the attendance at the sports events throughout the year.

Mighty Mite Football is offered to kids from third to sixth grade during the fall of each year at the Mountaineer Stadium.

Soccer is also played in the spring and fall and is available for kids from 3 to 15 years of age.
Leagues play on Saturdays at the Spirit of '76 Park.

Softball and baseball leagues range in ages from pre-school children to 16 with sign-ups in Mid February.
Leagues play May and June.
